Worker jobs in Canada 2024.  The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary is looking to hire a professional and seasoned individual. Accurately assessing and charging companies and the public for waste management services is one way the Landfill Attendant helps to effectively run the Solid Waste Facilities at the McKelvey Creek Landfill. They also handle the waste management and recycling system. To fulfill customer expectations and departmental goals and objectives, this role assists team members in supporting the Environmental Services Department.

Following applicable laws, operational certifications, and operating principles, it is the responsibility of the waste Attendants, who report to the Landfill Supervisor, to oversee and regulate the usage of the waste site.

Worker jobs duties

  • Monitors on-site activities to ensure use occurs according to the operational plan and policies set.
  • Where possible, identify and reject refuse deemed a special waste, a controlled substance, or in any other way unacceptable due to legal requirements. Determines what is acceptable for the site and what is not; informs customers of other sites.
  • Assesses commercial and residential waste loads and charges accordingly, collects tipping fees, maintains a float, balances the day’s receipts, and makes out weekly bank deposits.
  • Instruct customers as to where to dump materials
  • Removes snow from the scale platform and/or the vicinity of the gatehouse. Ensures that a 25-metre radius around the gatehouse is tidy and litter-free—other general housekeeping duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Ensures separation and placement of reduced and recyclables in the appropriate locations
  • Maintains computerized and other records, including those necessary for billing users for tipping fees.

Worker jobs requirements

  • Grade 12 plus 1 – 12 months prior job-related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Survival First Aid courses
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS regulations and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures.
  • Keyboarding, cash handling, and basic office equipment experience.
  • General knowledge of standard computer applications
  • Knowledge of recycling and general operation of landfills and related materials is an asset.
